Ashley Nicole Russell, Esq. is an award-winning attorney, author, and advocate who has built her career on integrity, compassion, and leadership. As the founder of The Law Offices of Ashley Nicole Russell, P.A. (AN|R Law)—the first Collaborative Family Law firm in Eastern North Carolina —she has pioneered a new approach to resolving conflict, focusing on understanding rather than division and collaboration rather than combat. Now, Ashley Nicole is a first-time candidate running a grassroots campaign that is for the people by the people.
Ashley Nicole is a member of a global organization nominated for the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to promote peace through collaborative conflict resolution. As an active member and former marketing agent for the IACP, Ashley Nicole helped expand public awareness of collaborative law and its impact on families worldwide. She was honored as a Leader in the Law by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly and has been featured in Forbes, The Washington Post, and on ABC, NBC, and CBS News for her leadership in family law reform and advocacy.
As both a child of divorce and a divorcee, Ashley Nicole experienced firsthand the emotional and financial toll of traditional litigation. That experience inspired her to dedicate her life to building a better way forward for families. Through AN|R Law’s offices in Greenville, Raleigh, Beaufort, and Wilmington, she and her team have helped thousands of North Carolinians find peaceful resolutions built on dignity, respect, and compassion.
Ashley Nicole graduated Magna Cum Laude from Appalachian State University with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Political Science and Criminal Justice, and earned her Juris Doctor and Certificate in Dispute Resolution, also Magna Cum Laude, from North Carolina Central University School of Law. She co-founded the North Carolina Collaborative Attorney Network (NC-CAN) and holds certification with the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
She is the author of the book The Cure for Divorce Culture and host of the “Divorce, Healthy!” podcast, which explores how communication, empathy, and faith can transform relationships and communities. Ashley Nicole also served as an advisor for the co-parenting app Fayr, was a board member of the National Parents Organization, and served as Vice President of the Carteret County Bar Association.
In addition to her work with AN|R Law, Ashley Nicole co-founded Michael & Russell, PLLC, headquartered in Wilmington, which focuses on adoption law and collaborative family law. Her leadership has strengthened small businesses, supported families, and created opportunities for professionals across North Carolina.
